To cut a long story short my horse has not been ridden for 5 months due to a back problem of mine. He got an abbcess in his foot recently and that was treated by vet and me. When farrier came to put shoe back on he noticed that he had evidence of a bit of laminitis in both back feet (never had before). He put shoes back on and gave me the all clear to ride him again.
I took him out this morning in walk for 2 miles around the block and left him in for a few hours after as normal (to keep him off the grass). When I let him out again he was a bit sore or stiff on the same leg again...my question is could it just be stiffness after the ride and being in for a bit or should I start worrying about abbcess coming back or lami???
I will check him again in a bit in case it is stiffness...all hooves are warm but the same temp all round...help! I have put a call in to the vet to call me back for advice too, but that might not be till monday now as not an emergency.

it sounds quite unusual to have lami in back feet not front, i think. if he's sound tomorrow i'd walk him out for 10-15 mins gently and see how he is, i think. i'd keep him off the grass just in case, till you've spoken to the vet. if there's no extra heat in the foot that had the abscess, i doubt it's that... has he been left with a thin sole where the abscess drained? any chance he could have bruised that maybe?

Thanks, spoken to the vet and she said to let him have a few hours out to walk about and if he is stiff from the ride he will walk it off. She said to put him in tonight, which I will do and see how he is in the morning. She thinks it is more likely to be stiffness as we have hills everywhere here and he was quite keen being the first time out in 5 months!
The abscess was on his toe quite near to the surface so there was not much sole taken off to find it and that is now pretty covered up by his shoe. I will see how he is at tea and put him in for the night.
