Advice...growing out of a pony...

My daughter has had her 13h secb pony for over 5 yrs.My daughter and her pony are both 14 yrs.Its been very up and down over the yrs with her pony, shes very sharp, forward and fast..not a first pony and not for a novice either.These past 2 yrs everything clicked and shes really come on massively, sh e has a fab jump...never refuses and clears 3ft with ease very quick on the clock.Dressage she excels in also..she would make a really good games pony.However my daughter has grown overnight..she is very leggy but skinny so weight would never be an issue.Watching her ride tonight I know she won,t get another season out of her.We have talked about what to do and my daughter is desperate not to part with her.BUT.... I can,t let her waste in a field shes too talented.But finding another kid for her would be so hard as she,ll take the P*ss massively and throw a massive buck too...as well as tank off.Should I put her in foal....try to sell her ....or keep her as an ornament.She has excellent breedlines...and I,ve thought of putting her to a connermara, or arab ..hoping to get something 14 h -14.2 h....then my daughter has a youngster to bring on and break herself ..which is her dream..help............what would you do

Why can't she keep riding it? Both seem well suited now, height is the only issue, but in reality, is it really a problem?

Don't breed it. There is no need for another horse which may inherit a questionable temperament, and to be quite honest can you guarantee that when your kid is 18 she will either want a horse (uni, boys etc) or have the skills to back and break a youngster properly?

Sorry but by the time your homebred youngster is ready for your daughter to start breaking her its highly likely that her interests will lie in other directions. If YOU want to breed and break a youngster then go for it, otherwise join your daughter to pc so that other families can see the pony and you can suss out a suitable next home for her.

Well...my daughter clocked this thread very quickly..........and was upset..think she,ll be wrapping her legs twice round her pony for the next few yrs ...

When she gets either too tall to be comfortable & decides herself she isn't suited, would loaning be an option? 13hh isn't small for a second pony, even for a finer type. Meantime I'd definitely get daughter & pony to pc if they aren't already so you can get pony a rep with competent kids. Daughters second pony type is 11.1hh, while I'll never sell because she's also a pet, I'm sure when she's too outgrown even to hack I can find a jockey with some work. I wouldn't breed yours though, unless its for you, rather than daughter to keep longterm.

well my son is 15 and a half and he is still on his 13hh NF pony. he has been with this pony since pony was three and they are so bonded that they just fit together. he has just been area showjumping and got 8 faults out of both rounds in the 3ft class this year . He jumped him in a Puissance class at the weekend and jumped 4feet with no stirrups (he has got a broken toe and cant wear boots ) .
Why does he need to move on, he is a slightly built lad but his legs do dangle a bit and rides well, he wont be overweight for this boy for a long time and there is nothing that he wants to do that this pony cant join him with , all the time they are both happy then they will stay together and have great fun and show those big horses how its done !!!!
