hi all- just looking for some suggestions/own stories. We had my fantastic four year old broken in professionally six weeks ago and brought her home and for the past three weeks she has been fantastic, cant fault her and over the moon with her. Shes quite a quirky mare to begin with, doesnt like being told what to do and gets quite stroppy so have to find a happy medium with her but all in all has been amazing. Which doesnt explain when i took her for a flatwork lesson yesterday she came in in a strange mood, a bit awkward to box and very unsettled when getting tacked up, swishing her tail and stamping her back legs sort of thing, we lunged her first as anticipated a bit of a fresh ride then got on, fine for the first ten mins but started to buck and lash out whenever i asked her to go forward or move away from my leg, she got worse and worse until my instrucor stopped us and decided to put us on the lunge so she could command her incase it was something i was doing, as soon as she put us into trot lexy went absoloutly balistic, complete rodeo style until i came off and she came to a halt. I got back on for two minutes to have a little walk then ended it there. I am baffled as to this behaviour as she is not like this, has had a new saddle fitted teeth done etc, she was not unhappy with her back but more her sides. She is quite a stroppy mare and a couple of weeks ago when i was brushing her belly i noticed little drops of wax on her teats, she has had a foal before but is absolutly not in foal, phantom pregnancy perhaps? Has anybody got any similar experiences as have been told of other mares who can be this bad when feeling hormonal? Also dont think its just baby behaviour as this was upset, stressed behaviour and not just trying it on! Thanks for reading x

I agree with the others. My mare is in agony when she is in season and regumate helped her loads. I have stopped it this year as it put so much weight on i was worried about lami and vet agreed after being on it for two years it could have reset evry thing. Hopefuly.

thanks for replies all! still waxed up but seems generally happier in herself, spent a couple of hours fussing over her and she seems content enough! vet coming out tomo so will hopefully get some proper answers so will report back then (just hoping that when we are fit and ready to undergo riding again shell have forgotten that bucking is an extremely effective tool to dismantle her mother)!
