I've just recieved a text from the owner of a horse I have loaned since last Nov saying he is thinking of selling and do I want to buy...

Am totally thrown....

I wanted to loan him a bit more - then think of buying something a bit more suited to my needs when I have the cash..

and ideally find another loanee to replace me.

Now I don't know what to do... I would feel terrible saying I don't want him and he would hate to move yards again as it took him ages to settle in.

I feel completely torn...

Well I think you have answered your own question when you say you were hoping to loan for a bit longer an then get something more suited for your needs when you have the brass. Do you think you would end up selling him yourself one day - as you say - you would like something more for your needs.

dont feel to guilty - he will probably be found a great home if you dont buy him. And you never know - horse are odd - his next yard might be great and he could settle better than ever!

My advice would be not to buy him from what you have said - it may take ages for him to sell and by then you may want to buy something anyway! If he goes up for sale - maybe you could help and make sure he goes to the right home! Good Luck

I know - I think I have too...

I just feel terrible about it..... especially about him having to move again.... he was very underweight and difficult when i first got him and he has improved, but he will be hard to sell as he can be very strong, isn't great in traffic and is 16... on the upside he is a fab jumper...

But I keep thinking i should just buy him.... to make it all easier...

no dont just buy him hun !!! you obviously dont really want to own him from your first post however lovely he is ??? dont do something which you could regret x

Never buy a horse because you feel guilty!!

You obviously don't want to buy him, so don't - he will be better finding a home with someone who genuinely wants to keep him forever [hopefully].

I know you are right - it just was a bit of a shock and I didn't want his owner to think i hadn't enjoyed having him etc etc..

Thanks x

I know you are all talking sense - but I am always a sucker for a sob story - which is how I ended up with him in the first place. And he isn't all bad - just not for me...
