HI, I need to insure my horsebox and really can't work out it's value despite looking everywhere for comparisons, any suggestions welcome.
To cut a long story short, I had an old lorry with a nice container on it and halfway up a hill on the way back from a show I lost power to the gears and we think the clutch has gone (not a good experience, luckily wood nearby and managed to stop box rolling backwards downhill by putting lumps of wood behind rear wheels!!! I don't have much lorry luck!)
The chasis is so old that it wasn't worth replacing the clutch and a couple of other bits wrong with it to get it through it's mot so I have had to stump up a load of cash to get a new chasis (they are a nightmare to find!) as I can't bear the thought of anything breaking down again with my horse on board as is 2nd time I have had to be towed back and we are right on the edge of the emission zone - bless you ken!!
I finally have a 3.5 ton lorry, it is a twin rear axle on a 54 plate LDV chasis, has done 53k miles and has a very tidy ifor williams container on the back which will take a 2 big horses up to about 16.3, but with the payload restriction would take a 16hh horse and a smaller pony???? It is now quite a smart and new lorry, I can't find a starting point for the value except the cost of the chasis which was £6.5k, have no idea of the value of the container as is in excellent condition (nearly good as new) but is at least 10yrs old, values seem to differ massively, there are renault master types out there on single axle older chasis for £14k which aren't as sturdy as mine, but look lots prettier due to having nice coachwork. Ijust can't tell what the replacement value would be and want to get enough cover as they get pinched fairly regularly in our neck of the woods ? Any ideas anyone?
