Hiya, My 14 (or 15, cant remember!) week old puppy keeps on messing in his cage, even if I'm only out for a couple of hours. We tried putting him in a smaller cage but its making no difference! Any advice would be welcome, Ive just come home to find him and his cage smothered..... not nice!

My friend was having the same problem

Its quite strange for a dog to wee or poo on there bed

.

I know she went and got some training pads and put them into the cage in which he goes on them now

Do you feed him in the cage.?
If not try it, feed him in there & then let him out to the garden.
Really make a big fuss of him when he goes in the right place...ignore him if he goes in his crate.

Is the puppy doing normal faeces or are they loose at all. If they are loose then it will be more difficult for the puppy to hang on, so you might want to adjust the diet. Does the puppy only do it when you go out, not when he is in the crate at other times? If so, might be because he is stressed with you leaving. How often do you leave him alone and what is the maximum time you are away?

Its normal not loose, its every night now, we let him out at about 10-11, and my hubby is up at 5, and nearly everytime I go out, which can range from 15 mins (school run) to 5 hours (the most Im at work) although Im signed off at the moment, so Im not actually leaving him very much at all at the moment (just the school run twice a day, twice a week). Last night my hubby left him for 20 mins while he popped to asda and tried giving him the front room and kitchen, and he still done a huge one in the middle of our front room.

Im still feeding him three times a day, do you think reducing that might help? He's almost house trained when I'm here, just the odd accident. I was going to reduce it down to twice staring today.
