For some reason over the last year I've completely lost my confidence jumping. I've went from regularly competing foxhunter to looking at something at 80cm and thinking I'm not quite sure about it. Ive had a change in horse and she's very very scopey and hot under the collar Any exercises to gain confidence? Or do I just need to make an absolute point of jumping 2 or so times a week, I've had her 8 months of which I've had about 3 months off due to an operation

I would not put pressure on yourself, start small and set little goals, poles on the floor to start, then a little cross pole and go from there. Set yourself mini goals that will get you to your big goal, for example, first session one cross pole, next session a cross pole and a small straight, third session a 60 cm straight etc.

A good instructor that understands you and can build your confidence I would say. Let them sort the heights, distances etc and take control of your session, as long as they understand your crisis of confidence. Talk to them about how the last year has went and maybe they will help find the root of where this fear has come from.

...from there it's good to give yourself time, take the pressure off and enjoy even a small pop and feel good about it without getting obsessed with cm of the fence.
