We recently bought my 11 yo Daughter a miniature horse/pony as she doesn't have the confidence to ride but like all little girls bitten by the pony bug she wanted a pony of her own.
I heard from a friend that someone had this little lad in their back garden and had got bored of him and then once I saw him I couldn't leave him behind. He was a poor looking little chap with a big blown out tummy and he behaved like a dog following us around looking for attention.
He's been with us now for about 6 weeks and since being wormed and fed on horse feed (instead of bread and peanuts I kid you not) he's looking so much better and stronger. As such we'd like to start with a bit of training. We'd love to take him out to some shows next year and my Daughter would like to have a go at horse agility but he needs to build some muscle first.
We've tried to lunge him and long rein with no success at all. He refuses to behave like a horse, following me around rather than moving away from me. He's not in the least bit encourage by a lunge whip and we've had limited success with my Daughter standing in the middle while I lead him round. He just plants his feet and refuses to move. We've tried taking him for a walk in hand and he will go so far then decides no further and plants himself. He just seems to be programmed to be a lawn mower and I'm now at a loss as to what else to do to encourage him forwards. So please if anyone has any suggestions as to how I can get this little man moving we'll be everso grateful.
