Advice Needed - Loose Poo!

Why does it always happen when I'm about to go away. Off to Spain tomorrow for a long weekend.

Just been down to the horses, my mare normally has relatively solid poo's. Today she is really loose. No change of diet, no extra grass. Her companion has always been loose, but not her. Do I need to worry! What could be causing it. She is eating fine and does not appear in any distress. Ate her tea of one scoop of happy hoof and now munching grass very happily as normal.

Has turned colder overnight the last couple of nights and I haven't rugged her, whereas the others have been. I have rugged her tonight, just in case. Any advice or suggestions appreciated
 
My horse is like this all the time, I asked my vet and he said it's due to something going through system too quickly, apparently nothing to worry about. Perhaps she picked at a plant in the paddock that didn't quite agree with her :-)
 
this has happened to my mare at this time of year for 3yrs. She scours and looses a bit of condition. Last year some of the liveries at my yard got a bit narky and complaining that she mist have a virus and it may be infectious, even though she was sprightly in herself, and I said it was the norm, despite the fact that no other horse was loose in the end i conviced myself that they must be right and I obviously didn't know my own horse ;) so I called the vet out, he had a good listen and took bloods, he could find nothing wrong, he said it was quite common for this to happen and that to try and trace the cause is like trying to find a needle in a haystack. He reccomended that since she was completely fine and her only symptom was scouring that I just stuff her full of hay, increase her fibre and help to bung her up a bit. Worked fine. Lo and behold she was the same this year, started about a month ago and had just cleared up.

Go with your gut instinct (*sniggers, s'cuse the pun*) you know your horse, from experience I would now try and fix it with fibre, if no change then call the vet. but then that is with my mare.:)
 
Fibre (and pink powder if necessary).

I would recommend adding Pink Powder at times of stress or after worming to help the gut afterwards.

A high fibre diet has stopped my mare scouring. Fast Fibre is brilliant!
 
Thanks everyone - I feel much better now - will let my friend know who is looking after her while I'm away - She's very good and will call the vet if she is worried.
 
Our old mare does a similar thing every autumn and has just been even worse this year - 3 weeks of liquid scouring. She is old but in good condition. Fed a balancer, hay, good grass and a handful of high fi light. Previously she has been investigated and nothing has been found. This year called the vet for a chat and she said it was common this time of year and if no loss of condition and otherwise very well not to worry too much.

Pink powder has always worked but this year she was so bad we tried another Naff product that is specifically for this problem (like pink powder but stronger - it is called Biotics. She had 2 courses and it has worked well.
 
can i recommend you contact horse health solutions as they give you advice on herbs to use, they have just helped my friends pony who had compaction problems and lo and behold he is much better after a week on the 2 herbs they recommended.
