I became the very proud owner of a 14.2hh irish cob mare at the weekend :)
She is living out at grass and i am just interested to find out what other people feed their cobs and in what quantities?
She will only be ridden at weekends during the winter and only hacked out.
The previous owners only fed her after exercise but i want to make sure she's getting everything that she needs but not too much energy!
Any advice welcome.

My heavy cob boy is just the right weight at the moment. He is trace clipped, out during the day on mediocre grass and in at night with ad lib hay. Ridden about 4 to 5 times per week for up to 2 hours at a time. I have just started giving him a feed in the mornings when he is ridden as his batteries had started to feel a bit flat when we were out. He has just under a scoop of normal non heating horse and pony mix with the same of chaff. This seems to have done the job and given him a bit more zing when we are out and about. I leave it about an hour between feeding and riding :)

ETA: if I'm not riding him, he doesn't get a feed

My 15.1 show cob gets half a scoop of Happy Hoof and apples and carrots morning and night. In at night with ad lib hay and out in a fairly well grazed paddock during the day. He's come into winter looking just right I think. But he is prone to laminitis so I've kept his weight well down this summer. Result = one happy horse. Much more energy and a joy to own.

My boy. Who's nearly 20 gets ridden 3 to 4 times a week. In at night out in the day. Fully clipped apart from head and legs. Has 1 cup of balancer. 1/2 a scoop of good doer chaff and 1 cup of fast fibre which makes about 1/3 of a scoop.
