Hi, I am new tp the forums but I am really hoping for some advice regarding my 8 year old Connemara/cob cross pony and cancerous cells.
I recently noticed an ulcerated lesion on his extended penis that was pusy and infected. I called in my vet who cleaned the area and took biopsies as she felt that this is a sign of squamous cell cancer. The biopsy results came back as abnormal and changing cells and it was confirmed that these cells were the start of squamous cell cancer. From here I had him booked in to have the area lasered to remove any abnormal cells with the view of a long term positive prognosis.
However three days before the surgery was booked I noticed that the area had completely healed and that there was not even a scar or any pinker skin present. I called my vet who came to look and confirmed that you cannot even find the area where the biopsies were taken. The whole area is back to normal, there is very little discharge/smegma and the skin is very healthy. Obviously with no area to treat I have had to cancel the surgery and although I am really pleased with that I am very concerned that if these cells are left untreated they may cause problems or may spread. My vet is looking into this as she is absolutely flummoxed and has never heard or seen these type of lesions heal so well and so quickly before but I was wondering if anyone esle has had a similar experience or can shed any light on this,
I was just really hoping for some advice for peace of mind as I am now worried the cancer may be spreading and we have no way of stopping it.
Thank you so much for any help you can give me.
