Hi all!
I'm new to the forum, but would like to see if I can get a couple of bits of advice ... I hope I'm posting in the right place!!

I've had my first foal, a colt just 3.5 months old. He's by a lovely Argentine polo mare (my 'old faithful' playing mare and horse in a million) and a registered thoroughbred racing stallion with absolutely cracking bloodlines. My hopes for him would be to keep him as my future horse, and not be used for polo now but eventing - if possible.
The dams Argentine bloodlines are not specifically known. I'm assuming even if I find out her bloodlines, I can't register the colt anywhere as the dam is likely to be of a mixed thoroughbred origin?
He's a super colt, I hope, for me he has great potential, but I don't want to be too complacent and not pursue any potential avenues which I may regret in his future!

I know it's longshot, but are there any registers I may not know of, that would accept a 'mare x' or mixed bloodlines in the UK? I'm going to look more into mares history, I know of the family who bred her, they breed a lot for international polo, but I may not get specifics (the mare has been around a fair while, and brought to the UK as a 4 year old. They may not have kept specific records from more than 15years ago!).

I need to get him chipped and a passport sorted - given his breeding and my future hopes for him, does anyone have any views on the best agency to go with for this? I don't know whether to just go with a BHS passport? I'll avoid a HPA passport (Hurlingham Polo Association) as the intention for him isn't now for polo, and they are renowned to be more than 'slightly flakey' anyway.
I hear HPA (Horse Passport Agency) are also slightly throwaway also? You would hope now it's a legal requirement all would be viewed in pretty much the same way, but I have my doubts. My other horses have HPA and Farmkey passports.
Any advice greatly appreciated!

Just for forum info - I've not bred for money or gain, but to keep a bit of a fab mare going for myself... a labour of love to hopefully have some adventures with (for my sins and my bank account!!), but certainly a competitive future of sorts will hopefully lie ahead for us and I want to make sure I've covered the paperwork side of things as well as possible so I've no regrets further down the line or a lightbulb moment once it's too late!!

Thanks in advance for any help :)
Hope you all have a lovely (not too wet weekend - at Blenheim maybe!)

Sports horse GB will register him and at least the sires breeding will be on the passport! You could use AES (anglo european) also which would be a bit cheaper as its a colt . If it was a filly I would have gone SHGB every time. Both will include known breeding . A generic passporting company wont.

Wetherbys will happily register and passport any horse or pony but obviously it will be in their standard registery not the TB racing one.

But by registering with an official society and putting the sire and dams name down then you are starting a line. It doesn't matter that you don't know the mares parentage.

Thank you so much popsdosh! That's so great to know he can be SHB(GB) registered! It seems (reading up on their documentation) just with proven parentage from the stallion he could be registered in the Auxiliary Stud Book (along with receiving a SHB(GB) passport)... though given he is most likely going to be gelded, is it more worthwhile only applying for a SHB(GB) Identity Document? I'll aim to call them tomorrow and check everything I need to do - and the options! I'm so grateful for your advice and for passing on your knowledge. I'll let you know how I get on! :)

Hi EKW!
Thanks for your reply - I didn't know at all that Weatherbys would register without known parentage... it's SO absolutely worth asking to pick the brains of knowledgeable people like yourself on here. Thank you very much!
I'm going to pursue the SHB(GB) route as it seems very in keeping with his 'hopeful' future, but it's so good to know Weatherbys may also be an option just in case! Thank you :)
