Advice needed please as I seem to have got myself in a serious pickle!!

Just got a text from Jim's owner to say that she is moving Jelly next weekend and no mention of her taking Jim!!! :confused:

I have texted her back and said, why are you not taking Jim too, I don't want him here on his own.

I took Jim on as a favour for her for the Summer, no written agreement (foolish but she is my friend) and I told her this. But this is not the first time she has referred to Jelly and not to Jim in the same context. Jim is not mine and I don't want him. I can't afford him long term on my salary and I want a job elsewhere and so can't have a horse. What do I do? I texted her back saying I will advertise him if she wants etc, but I kinda don't think its my responsibility!! Anyone want a horse??

I think you've done just the right thing. Very kind of you to advertise him, although I think it should be her responsibilty. Why does she not want him anymore?
 
Dont know the whole situation but I would just text her and TELL HER that she WILL be taking Jim aswell, Its not up to you to advertise him or have the worry of being left with him.
 
She never needed Jim he was a spare polo pony and she doesnt know who owns him. She does have his passport and contacted the old loaner (who had received him from a friend for her children) when I fell off as she thought I might want to give him up an she said I don't want him back and no it appears L*** (Livery) does not want him back either. The thing is, this is one of those really bad situations where a horse goes missing. I was thinking of asking if the local riding school wanted him as I think he would enjoy it there, but there not really going to take him on if not owned.

I have clearly annoyed her dunno how (did ask her to pay me for the hay etc this morning so this may have flown her into a rage!!!) but really in all counts I have done nothing wrong. She is here, as I have said before, rent free, I pay everything for Jim, and I do favours for her horse too like bringing her in in the morning etc so she doesnt have to come up, so if she is in a mood with me, fine, but I don't see why! She just replied to mw saying 'you told me you were having Jim for the Summer"

Oh well never mind? I wander if he would taste nice if I cooked him?

Ugh, how do I get myself in these messes. Its coz I am way to nice I think.
 
I told her I would have him for the summer, BUT, I did not say I would have him here on his own, and I did not say I would have him here after September. I have no written agreement, so surely I can just give him back if she is going to take the other horse away. therefore she can take both away ??

Yes farrier lover he is a good polo pony, 15 years old TB. I have never done polo so I actually don't know but from what I have heard he is good.

I think you should find out where she is moving the other horse and take jim out there.
I don't think she should just F* off and dump the horse on you.
I think it's nice for you to advertise him for her, although not much is selling and you might be stuck with the horse for a while.
 
If you sell him for her then keep the money. Or a good chunk of it to cover your costs of keeping him all this time. Although i'm not sure how much you would get for him..

I was going to try and find a permenant loan home or something for him ideally. as wont get any money for him. Well if she doesn't want him I will pay to have him PTS if I can't find him a home. I know its not very fair but neither is going from home to home as an unwanted mouth to feed really is it?

You shouldn't be in this situation at all! Can you not drop him off at her yard?
 
I will try and get her to take him, but I don't want him just sitting in a field on his own with no friends no life and not being cared for. If this is his option of life if I make her take him back then I would prefer not to do that TBH. Hmm, I will keep you all updated on this as it progresses. It may just be that she has got the hump and is leaving as a result of being in a mood with me and she may decide in a few days that she is fine and is staying and so I will have longer to find Jim somewhere to go.
 
So the horse has been loaned out and passed on??? You don't know who actually owns the horse?? Uummmm not good. Can't you try and find who actually owns the horse if your friend is happy with that? The proper owners may off actually been looking for him, ??
 
You can drop him off at mine! Although, I don't fancy some bonkers lady coming along and demanding him back as they have been looking for him for 10 years... ;)
 
Oh god no it's not your fault, your the one trying to help. Just seems weird that the owner has sort off disapeared. I would cheek passport and see if your friend remembers who/where she got him from? I have pm you as well.
 
I think it is essential that someone contacts the last named owner on the passport. It may well be that they wanted rid of him, if they no longer played polo, or he wasn't that good etc. etc. A friend of ours has had a few dumped on her over the years, people arrived, payed for six months grass livery, never seen or heard of again! One way of dealing with unwanted horses, without any hassle to the owners apparently :eek:
 
As the others say try and trace the owner through the passport, however don't under any circumstances have him put to sleep as he's not your horse.

Why not have a word with one of the charities such as WHW and see what they suggest.
 
Don't worry not going to have him PTS. Will get onto the old owners ASAP and see if we can find Jim a legal owner first of all. He will stay here until another solution has been found as at least that way I know he is ok. :)
