Brought horse in at 12.30 yesterday due to weather, he is usually out till 3. When did him this morn at 7 his back leg around fetlock area was quite swollen, it was quite hard. No heat and couldn't find any cuts (mud fever?) etc. Turned him out and he was sound and swelling started to go down pretty much straight away. I remember last winter when he is satbled more that this leg was up and down but not as big as this. Just wondered what you think/ Should I get vet to check it out? Will pop a stable bandage on this eve to see if that helps?

if he is sound on it he sould be ok had you ridden that day ? My mares puffy legs used to get worse after hunting then being stabled. Some days they are just bad but we live with it and she soon walks them off

No hadn't been ridden but not sure what he gets up to in field!! Just wondered if you thought it was worth investigating further, don't want to waste my money on vet!! He is a big horse, 17.1 and I realise that sometimes bigger horses can suffer with this sort of thing.

tbh unless he's lame then i wouldn't bother calling vet, it's mostly to be just where he's in stable and the legs have filled. i think stable bandages would help keep swelling down if you're worried

just sound like his legs have filled from being in that bit longer. a mare at my yard has the same thing, it's nothing to worry about imo

how old is he ?

If its going down and there is no puncture wound or lameness and its not skwishy and full of fluid I wouldn't worry to much maybe just mention it the next time the vet has to come out for something else.

He is 13 now. Brought him in early again today cus of weather and put a stable bandage straight on. Leg was back to normal when he came in so will be interesting to see whats its like in the morn, thank you for your replies

yeah my horse does this - don't panic - as soon as she starts doing any work or just walking out to the field then it goes down, the more work she's in the less it happens, so always make use of turnout, exercise, walker, or even just being kicked in the school
