Re-post from vetenary and hoofcare forum as no joy!

Just wondering if anyone had any wonder treatments for dry brittle hooves. My big fellas fed happyhoof and biotin and seaweed, gets ample covering of NAF hoof moist (as in use nearly a pot a fortnight)

any wonder creams or suppliments u think can help moisten his feet and help stop the brittleness. theres always bits flaking off and im lookin at his feet today n think hes gna need.farrier n was only shod 3 weeks ago (hes a 6 / 7 week boy usually) xx

Would certainly 'fifth' Kevin Bacon, TB horse has shocking feet when I first had him and farrier recommended it - never looked back, and it lasts quite a while too!

If you can manage it I would be taking his shoes off for a few weeks - maybe into winter if you need them on to work him this time of year. My farrier was very dubious about whether Reg's feet could cope but a couple of months of allowing the hoof to flex and move and get a good blood supply as opposed to being in the "straightjacket" of shoes changed his feet beyond all recognition. That and a low sugar high fibre diet and supplementing with magnesium oxide. And no, I am not a member of the barefoot taliban - my horse wears front shoes to work in.
