I own a yardwith a few liverieskeeping their horses with us. Out of the blue last week a girl "sold" one untried, giving no notice he was leaving and hasnt paid his final bill. Then yesterday she did a runner, took the other horses, giving no notice. There was no bad terms or feeling and all other liveries are happy. She did have a contract, knew the terms she had to pay by and if she left to give the required notice. She now owes a substancial bill, has left her boxes in a state! Any advice greatly taken!

My friend is going through this now. She ended up going down solicitor route. If you have a contract then it's binding and you have the right to demand owed monies.

If you have her home address then send her a bill by Royal Mail Special Delivery and also send one my normal post that way she will get one of them. Send a letter advising her that if the bill is not settled within 14 days that you will take the matter to the small claims court and that she will then end up having to also pay for all the additional costs involved.
You can make a small claims court on-line so it is easy to do.

Thanks for the help. i Invoice monthly, and she had a contract for two out of the three horses (wouldnt sign the last one). She is very difficult, i feel sorry for the yard she has gone to, but i have already warned the owner of her antics.

Not much you can do about the stables being left or perhaps not the third horse which doesnt have a contract but i'm sure you could pursue her for the two that do have contracts. Invoice her as normal and if she doesnt pay then I would contact a solicitor. I'm sure there are some equine specialist solicitors for this type of thing. Good luck!

Would you actually need a contract for the 3rd horse? As she was paying rent for it already you would have a verbal contract.

Google a solictors called Thomas Higgins - they will send out letters to her for a few pounds. They are pretty good at getting people to pay.

Thanks again,

Im just annoyed that peopel like this get away with it... and think they are right!! I had a fax from her justifying why she didnt owe me any livery..... with pure lies! Howdo people like this get away with owning horses!!
