I have a lovely 13.3 coloured cob who l love to show. The problem is he hates it. I took him to a show on saturday and as soon as he went in the ring he just switches off he just seems to hate it.
The judge gave him some lovely comments like he will make a lovely riding pony (he is 6 by the way). And also he is in wonderful condition. Is there anything l can do to perk him up in the ring.

Maybe he is switched off because he is bored. Have you shown him a lot? Are you schooling too much with a view to showing. he is still quite young and maybe needs a variety of activities to switch him on again. Our cob was a bit like this so this year he will do less showing and much more hacking, jumping (while out on hacks which he loves) and schooling / lesson once a week In the Autumn / winter he will go hunting occasionally.

Could it be that he's not used to riding with her ponies? If so, maybe get him used to riding in a group at home - he's lovely so can understand why you would want to show him

Do you work him in before your class? the reason i ask is that our mare just goes flat if you work her in before her class, we literally get on 10/15 mins for just a walk round and then go in.It took us a while to work this out! now she goes round with that look at me sparkle in the ring. Also as suggested don`t over do it with the shows.
