I am currently with E&L insurance.. My horse has a lump and Im probely going to have to get the vet out,but Ive been told that E&L are aweful when you claim.
Could I change insurance companies if I dont do anything with the vet for awhile?
Who would be best to use? I cant get info on NFU????
Thanks
Sharon

Has your vet seen the lump already? Is it in his history at all, even a small mention? If the answer is yes to any of those then no you can't!

You could get in serious trouble if they found out you knew about this before changing (OH works for an insurance company - I know these things!). Even if it was within a couple of months they might be suspicious. Probably best not to post any more about it.......

ditto this....I'm with NFU....they have paid out twice for me...VERY quickly...once just under £2,000 and the other about £280...

If you go to switch companies they will ask about any injuries, skin conditions etc before they will cover the horse. You have to be 100% honest on these questions or you could be done for insurance fraud I think. (worst case scenario)
I always think honesty is the best policy.

I have just found another vet,who is more helpful than any others around they said to send pics of the lump so the vet can look at them.. I havent had any vet out yet.Its a small lump, which could go away on its own.I am afraid that if I need to claim from E&L that they wont pay out.

Still be really careful. Check all the information in your existing contract before you make a decision to change - get someone else to look at it as well. Make sure there's no way the insurance company can get out of it. It's a tough one but you could end up with an even bigger bill if you try to pull a fast one on the insurers. They're like that, the gits

Citizens' Advice would probably be a good bet too. If you do decide that you will be covered, give them a ring first as well and get confirmation. They have to record the calls, I think, so there will be evidence.

I had problems with them years ago so they don't improve then by the sounds of things I am with South Essex they have been good over the years but getting expensive these days.

I have had 4 horses with E & L for over 5 years now, I had to make a claim 4 months after buying my foal, She had stomach ulcers and they paid vets within 2 weeks a total of £1989.. no problems. very easy to talk to and very helpful.. Also know of others who insure with them and have claimed..

I think they are a lot better than they used to be..

I have just received my second payout from E and L, they took over 2 months to pay on both claims, but I got there in the end. I resorted to ringing them at least once a week and chasing up with emails.

There is a few vets around my end who have refused to deal with people if they are insured with e&l as they haven't got there money from them.
