My little lady doesn't seem at all happy with her bridle on, the last few times I have ridden her and especially today she just pulls away from me and shakes her head continously with foaming at the mouth and almost eating the bit and when we get home she just rubs and rubs to get her bridle off as soon as possible?

I really don't know what is causing this, her teeth are ok because I had them done last week and she was doing this before I had them done, she has been in the same bit for a while now, I have taken off her drop nose band piece and that doesn't seem to make any difference. Would putting her in a rubber bit make any difference?

Please help I don't know what to change, but I do know she isn't a happy girl :(

She is 20 and I have had her just a year, she has a nice fabric browband on so I would hope that's nice and soft for her - her current bit is a french link?

Thank you - the vet came out on thurs about another issue and ended up doing her teeth but he did mention that she had 2 spikes near the back which maybe in a years time might need doing at the clinic, do you think maybe that could be the issue? Or would the bit being to low in her mouth be causing the problem, im sure its ok but just an idea?

I don't think so but ill have a look at the bit and see what it is like, I just don't know where to go from here I think I will try and speak to the vet on the phone tommorrow about it he had a good look at her mouth on thurs so he might come up with something but I just know she isn't happy at the moment and I don't like riding her if its hurting :(

in my experience vets know very little about teeth, and my suggestion would be to get out a properly qualified Equine Dental technician to do a proper job. One of my liveries had a vet out to do their ponies teeth, the pony was really funny about having its bridle put on and I managed to persuade them to try my EDT who was coming out the following week. The result - the pony had seriously sharp edges all the way down and had ulcerated her cheeks on both sides, a fact that had been missed one week previously by the vet.

Great advice above but just as an extra thought and check, is she funny about having the bridle headpiece over her ears or sensitive around the ear area?

If she is it may be worth having a look to see if she has aural plaques in her ears.

My horse has them, lucikly he is fine to be touched, bridled etc but in some horses it can cause a real problem

:)
