Advice needed

Ok I have a Rotti who is a very fussy eater! She has Science Plan Dry Food at the moment, which is great for her as she has problems with her front legs.
However she never eats her dry food with nothing else with it! she can go days without food so I give in and put some Cheese or something in with her food just so she will eat!

We went through a stage of putting Dog meat in with her food just at night, however this did not agree with her stomach.
So she cannot have dog meat, tonight she has had Fish mixed in with her dry food, but this is costing me a fortune!

She used to be a little under weight, however this changed when she got spaded, she now looks like a lab sort of build, which is fine so the vet said and looking at her she looks great.
She has a lovely looking coat etc, but I am worried about her eating all these different things and not just her dinner!

Has anyone got any idea's on what I can put in her dry food which is non harming and she will eat!
 
How about some tinned fish? My dog loves tuna (value one for 20 odd pence) sardines, pilchards and occasionaly if i'm feeling rich salmon.
If its only a small amount to get your dog to eat it shouldn't cost you too much. Half a tin of tuna at each feed works out about £1.50 per week!!

I went through a stage of feeding that, then stopped (Not sure why!) Its meant to be quite good for them too with all the oil's etc.

Could go back to that, but is that going to be ok for me to feed every evening?

Fish is good! But you do get fishy dog breath

Only thing I read not to feed them is salmon or smoked fish. And make sure fish is in oil and not in brine...

Will your dog eat meat as well - like cooked chicken and liver? With some pasta or mashed potato? (Mashed potato - just plain is upposed to be good for their stomach if they get upset stomach.)?

I mix dog biscuits in with the sardine when I feed them.

Apparently dogs like some variety in their food, but i try to be consisent with the biscuits, so changes are not too dramatic.

Hi, I have a rotti and she has sometimes done this and gone off her food. Sometimes it is down to her session. Once it was down to her teath, another time, she had a sore throat, and the last was she was in the process of developing an absess near her ear.

Other times, she has just got fed up with the same food and I have had to change her diet. I used to put gravey with her dry food and this would tempt her to eat.

I have just gone through a very expensive time, of finding another food she likes. As you said, they can go days and wont eat and she has done this, which is unbareable and I have ended up cooking her chicken and mince!.

I would be tempted to check out her teath and throat, just to see if there is any discomfort. Otherwise, good luck, with my rotti, I have just had to keep going until I find something she will eat.
 
we used to buy 'potted meat' from the butcher no idea what it was but v cheap and our old jack russell loved it

do make sure that you're not leaving the food down all the time though you should offer it, leave for ten mins or so and if he's not eating it take the dish away and present it later, you could also let him see you eating something first before putting his food down as he might be using food as a control thing and trying to be the boss
what's he like generally?
 
I have a rotti boy he not to fussy with food but like variety, he always has his dog biscuits (active dog one) with the left overs from dinner and a tin of meat if not enough left overs. Depends on how hungry i am.

He suffers very badly with upset tummy from food, i have to be careful not to buy to rich dog food or give him to spicy food. Otherwise OH is scrubbing the floor

Turkey!!!!!!! You could buy some Turkey drumsticks from Asda (or any other supermarket/butchers), roast them in the oven with no additives, oil or fat. Pick all of the meat off and feed some with your biscuit, you could cook up a job lot and freeze it in portions. It is low fat and easy on the stomach - recommended to us by a vet who specialises in allergies. If your dog has allergies which affect her stomach you could try feeding Turkey and potato.
 
what we do is buy a chicken for the dogs, drain the juices off once cooked and leave it to turn into jelly. and just put a bit of the jelly and a little of chicken in it. i am afraid though the only way is to stick to your guns. :S
