Hi there
I'm looking for a saddle for my 5 year old 15.2 Connie x warmblood gelding. Im buying second hand (for skint after Christmas financial reasons) and need any assistance on width you think he looks like ( this is a very rough science I know but I will also be getting measurements from any before buying, I just need to know where to start). Im thinking med/wide 17.5.
Thanks 20210103_101028.jpg

Hiya
Thanks for the reply.
I wont be guessing, or getting on my boy until he has a perfect fitting saddle. im measuring it all and know what a well fitting saddle looks like on a horse. I have spoken to my local saddle fitter (I live in the middle of nowhere)who said a med or a med wide and just trial a couple. She isnt coming out just now due to covid reasons. Just buying second hand is a bit of a nightmare to keep trialing so was just looking for general advice on if folk think he looks med or med wide so I have a majority starting point.

I would get a proper fitter out with a good choice of second hand saddles to start with, I have and will just buy on the open market but I know what works with my horses and what won't and I have a good understanding on saddle fit, if I didn't I wouldn't just take a chance it's not worth it especially with a young horse, and I very much doubt a 17.5 inch seat will fit that back.

The angle of your picture foreshortens his length so it is difficult to give any constructive opinion. A full side view (preferably against a plain background) might help some folk on here who have similar horses to give you a better steer.

You need to buy a flexi curve measure to start with WH Smith do them, then you will have some idea of his width at least.

Thanks for the reply, I agree the pic isn't great. Here is him side on of him being grumpy while eating his hay this morning. He photographs quite small but he is 15.2 I promise.
I have measured him with the owner of the yard and 17 inch we think will be fine on his back...not 17.5
