Advice of donation amount?

Hi

I wondered if anyone could possibly advise? I am looking at loaning a horse from a rescue centre. Lovely horse who is suitable for me as a general/novice rider who simply does the odd tootle in the school and possibly a little hack.

I will be making a donation to the rescue but have absolutely no idea what I would offer as first time I have done this? I would hate to look like a complete penny pincher but also couldn't really afford pay a huge amount like into the thousands ( I may be being a little unrealistic thinking it is this much but really have no idea)

Any suggestions?

We didnt donate anything when we loaned Puzzle.

We paid her fee, which was £50 I think (8month old youngster, its £500 if its ridden from WHW I believe), and didn't donate any more than that.

I pay through the nose for that horse, she had a stable built purposefully for her, and I will keep her and love her til her final day.
 
I think most of the bigger rescue centres have set figures for donations. I think WHW charges from around £50 for a companion up to £500 for a full fit riding horse (prepared to be corrected on this, it is a while since I had my WHW pony). I would be a bit suspicious if any rescue centre was looking for figures around £1000.

Ets. Actually yes as Flamehead says it's not so much a donation as a set loan fee.
 
On the form you fill in, you have to have full membership with WHW, which is about £50, and then you pay their fee, which is £50 for unridden, £500 for fully fit ridden, and then there is a line for 'donation' but we just put 0.

Maybe somewhere between the 2 amounts would be reasonable then? £300 ish? Maybe you could ask them what sort of amount they would expect? Sure it won't be thousands. hope all works out for you & him.
