Hi there ,this is my first post and as a rather inexperienced equestrian married to an experienced equestrian the question is this ......
If I were to surprise my wife with tickets to a 3 day event which would you advise me to go to ? (bearing in mind we live in Yorkshire)
Cheers all advice gladly accepted

Bramham would be the closest and easiest, surely? very nice event, 3 star level (one down from Badminton and Burghley).
otherwise, there's nothing like Badminton, and it's on in a couple of weeks... they're even advertising a double room available nearby on h&h website i think, saw it a minute ago! it's down in Avon in the Bristol area, so a long way, but well worth the trek.
hope you both have a great day.

Bramham definitely - just up the road from me. Although this year am disappointed with their planned arena changes and they have put their prices up (again!!! they wonder why people think this is seen as an elitist sport??!).

I think if you book now though you can get free parking (otherwise it is £5 a day - another rip off I may add!!).

However, once you are there it is a great event and I find much more relaxed atmophere than Badminton, plus other things going on in the main arena - ie big showjumping classes and things such as PC games, pony showjumping, mix & match (showjumpers teaming up with eventers) etc in another arena. I am sorry but i went to Badminton the other year thinking it'd be fab and I have to say i was rather disappointed (sorry but i was!) as I think half the competitors pulled out, the event didn't start til very late on and there wasn't much else to do/going on considering the price of the tickets!

I agree with Thistle, I love Burghley: more relaxed than Badminton, better shopping than Bramham, generally the best event in the world! And an easy trip for you too... Have a great time wherever you choose! Wish my husband would do that for me - preferably for the Rolex Kentucky!!!

Burghley for me. I take my picnic chairs and position myself and my mum in front of the big screen where we can watch all the action and see about 5 jumps from one place. We lie back and soak up the sun. Its wonderful

Thanks for all the advice guys! We will probably start with Bramham given its close proximity and perhaps Burghley a little later on.Badminton sounds great but maybe a trip for next year .Nobody has mentioned Blenheim is this one any good?and also am I correct in thinking its the last one in the season?

Blenheim is also lovely, and worth a trip... weather can be dodgy by then though!!

If you like Scotland, then Blair is also nice, but it doesn't have the 5star shopping like Burghley and Badminton!! Bear in mind the shopping isn't all horsey.. there is everything you can think of... a lot of "posh" shops come there for clothes and housey stuff.
