advice on backing

with mine we started to actually sit on him once he was happy being lunged in side reins and being lay over and walked around with me lay over. we then sat on him and got on and off loads and then gradually moved to walking off with leader staying very close. only for very short spells. i'm no expert tho and had to send mine away in the end as he totally lost confidence once leader moved away and we tried to put him on the lunge. was best £200 i spent- would definitely send other babies away for backing in the future! much less painful!

Ditto! But if you aren't sure hold your hands up and say, much better to ask for help rather than struggle through and perhaps not have things go as smoothly as you would like.

Stephen - Can I ask what does the Horse Support Service of 'Training a young horse' at £35 per hour involve / cover...

I'm a bit confused, having looked at your website. How come you are asking for advice re backing if you charge £35/hour for training young horses? Or have I missed something?
