I'm giving my horse back to his old owner to retire and so will need to change ownership back to her.

I don't want anything for him but money has to pass hands for it to be legal, am I right in thinking? Would £1 suffice?

Am feeling really deflated but know its the best thing for him... Not sure I'll know what to do with myself in the evenings... What do people without horses do exactly?

Aww. hugs to you. Yes a £1 receipt should do the job.

I bet you'll find something else to loan/share. what about taking on a rescue centre horse. There are loads at the mo...

Oh, you poor pet, £1 is sufficient, as far as I know. I spent 7 years away from horses, having children, lacking in confidence and money, always loved them though, watched lots of showjumping on tv, and "helped" my friends that had horses, just putting up and down jumps in the practice ring, etc, pulling manes, plaiting , stuff like that, to keep me around horses. Was doing fine, then my kids started to grow up a little bit, saving scheme came up for cashing in, so instead of spending a bit here and there and having nothing, i bought a foal, and got one free with him. ended up selling him, as he was the devil personified, nearly killed me a few times, but I had 6 of em last winter, thankfully down to 2 now, but back loving it again. Being horseless for a while didnt do me any harm,(well, maybe my riding confidence, but working on that).

Hope you find something to fill the winter evenings.

Glad £1 will do the trick, I'll draw up a receipt from BHS - thanks for the responses.

I'm sure I'll get more done at work and the flat will be cleaner but no substitute for having a horse. Luckily I've been offered a spunky little arab to ride in the interim for a pregnant lady at my yard, but its going to be difficult without my lad. Think I will miss poo-picking, even by headtorch and even mucking out.... maybe not cleaning tack!

I'll still get to visit him and get reports on him I'm sure so its good to know he is going somewhere special, with all his old pals.
