I'm thinking about entering Charlton Park BE ODE in September, but it's quite a long way to travel and was wondering if anyone knew what the course was like just for my curiosity really before I enter? Any good or bad experiences from there before??

one of the nicest courses l have done the attention to detail of the xc fences are fantastic lots of wood carvings and wooden men with huge wheelbarrows! fantastic setting but l would not recommend it for a first timer

I'm going to enter the pre novice, been running well so far at pre novice, will be nice to try a more testing pre novice before hopefully moving up to novice early - mid next season. Thanks guys. Is anyone else going??

I love Charlton park lovely event. Its what I think eventing is about going for a nice day out at a beautiful setting with SJ surrounded by stalls and a lovely galloping inviting xc.

That is the devils choice as I also LOVE Monmouth!! I would go to both and just be broke!

Really I think Lackham is far too short a xc and not very exciting. The Sj is all jump for joy which I loathe as plastic poles. Its an ok event but I am not bothered if I do not go. Monmouth and Charlton are all must go to events!

I would say Charlton is a bigger event but there are pros in every direction. Its well run and everything is beautifully set out. If out of two I would probably choose this one. Its not as friendly as Monmouth but its what eventing is about.

Yes i think I will aim for Charlton Park, have West Wilts beginning of September so will have a gap in between then.
Does anyone know when the fixture list for next year comes out??

Only thing is it got pretty close to cancelling last year as it was so wet, I know it's too far off to say at the moment but think it would be quite an "at risk" event weather-wise. It was quite far from me so we stabled at William Miflin's and stayed in a lovely B&B down the road.

Charlton is my local event and it's fab! Not a first timers track, but always seems to ride quite well. If anyone is travelling a long way and needs a stable, give me a shout, I'm only about 10 mins down the road.

April - you live in Bath, it must be one of your closest events!!!

You don't have to pay to get across the bridge to get to Charlton as well. From Bath I would say that Charlton is closer than Monmouth. Have fun!

Shows how much I know - thought it was in Gloucester!! Maybe I was getting the monmouth and charlton events distances mixed up oops. Thanks for your help peeps - gonna give Monmouth a miss and go for CP!!
