... I was hoping someone would say it was perfectly normal and that a visit to someone was absolutely unnecessary

so quite often when falling you get a whiplash type injury. This means -amongst other things, that your neck ligaments stretch a bit and so you loose some stability in the segments, the clickyness is usually due to the vertebrae being too mobile so they move too much and 'clicks' are heard- (lots of debate what the click actually is but many think its air escaping from the joint- this is debatable i know!) since ligaments can;t contract they must heal with scar tissue and in the meantime the muscle must support the area more, gradually- so long as there is no major injury, the ligaments will heal, as will any tears in the muscles and the area will stabilise. I would recommend seeing an osteopath if it is still a problem since you may need some work to help the area stabilise and function normally, if its not checked it could heal slightly abormally and overall funciton may be compromised.
Hope that helps and get better soon!!
so to answer your question yes it is common to have clicks after such and accident but not sure normal is appropriate!

Thank you for your very clear and concise advise, straight from the 'horses mouth'

I went to a Musular Skeletal chap for my pulled ligaments in my back and he was very gentle, but perhaps not the person to see for this as he starts at £180 plus and this is only spent on my horses

Don't want to sound rude, but are Osteopaths the 'gentle' ones and the Chiropractors not so

.... S just said 'It's my turn next as well as don't get up, don't get up' and was lovely, as usual

Friend of mine did this sort of thing and turned out to have a fracture in his neck.
Get yourself checked out soon unless you want months of niggly pain.

Seahorse - well we think he lost his footing as the chap following seemed to think this ...... S was in front and P was up and ok ..... he is an amazing horse (love him to bits

) .... so it was more of a stumble and I was off

hi eaglestone, well its hard to say what each individual practitioner will be like butr in general if you go to a chiropractor (excluding mctimoney) then they will use manipulation in favour to anything else, as an osteopath i do occasionally use these techniques but most of my treatment consists of more gentle muscular and articulatory work i.e no clicks. if you see an osteo and explian you're not happy to be 'clicked' then theyt should easily be able to treat you using ither techniques, sometimes it means that the treatment time is a little longer overall but will reach the same end result. if you;re worried best to call an osteo that someone can recommend in your area and chat to them about it all. hope that helps if you need any more info pm me and i'll help if i can.

Personally I'm not a fan of Chiropractors, I hate being clicked! I see a sports massage therapist fortnightly for problems with my shoulder, she keeps me mobile. When I fell off and twinged my neck she was brilliant. I much prefer the deep tissue massage route as I find it more helpful but I suppose each to their own. I would definitely go see someone though because the longer you leave these things the more problematic they can become.

lizzieuk1 & Marchtime

Thank you both for your help and yes it is definately an Osteopath then for me, as I cannot cope with being clicked into shape, as I may pass out

I just hope they will not need me to go for an Xray first
