ok so some of you may know that i am planning to apply to the racing school-just one issue. and that is confidence!

its in a funny way though-i am usually confident on my own horse its just SOMETIMES when i ride other horses i think about what could happen e.g bucking, falling off however once they do do it i'm fine and the nerves go! also when going for a fast canter/gallop on a field i 'nerve up' before hand but the minute i set off my nerves melt away and i really enjoy myself. i hope that has made sense? and do you have any advice :)

i was thinking one thing that could help-concentrating on what i can ask the horse to do whilst i'm riding instead of sitting imagining scenarios!

I have been listening to a self hypnosis CD recently as I have been having a minor issue of confidence and I believe it's worked wonders! Only issue is, I've not put it to the test as I have had a trapped nerve in my foot for the past week, now it's almost recovered so hopefully will be on board tomorrow! :D

What helps me if I start thinking negative things is to take a deep breath, wiggle my ankles, my shoulders, and give my horse a pat and on we go.

Mad but it works for me xx

I think I'm exactly the same. I don't think it's an issue, at all. You sound like you're more 'aware' than 'scared'.
Being aware, especially when riding racehorses, is more that acceptable. Being scared well, you wouldn't even apply!!

I think it's all a matter of just taking a deep breath and imagining it going fine. If you have to, speak to them at the racing school on the phone or whatever, I wouldn't be surprised if you're one of many who has a few confidence issues about riding a horse that isn't yours!

Yes, this! What you describe sounds like healthy excitement, not real nerves. Go for it, sounds like you'd be a huge asset to a racing yard and have a ball to boot! :D

I did wonder if I was just getting excited about doing things but just put it down to having nervous nellie tendencies! there again today my 'nerves' went through to my pony before our 'blast' and she just got really quite fizzy so maybe it is excitement ?! :D
