So I've had Diesel since he was a puppy (he will be 5 in September) and when I got in from work last night I let both my boys into the garden like normal before I take them out and I noticed Diesel acting strangely.

The next thing he starts having a fit.
He has never -to my knowledge (unless while I've been at work?) had a fit before now.

We took him to the vets as soon as he'd stopped fitting where they checked him over and we had a long chat about all the possiblities etc. :-(

Just wondered if any of you have had any experience of this?

My dog (bulldog) had a few fits when he was younger about 4 he had and each time took him the vets did all usual tests and they came back with nothing?
Vet said he may grow out of the which seem's like whats happened.
Maybe he will just have the one and it not happen again. I think you would have noticed if he would have had them while you were not around.
Hope he's feeling better soon

As suggested, some dogs have 1 freak first then never again, usually your vet will check your dog over and have a chat about the possibility of the dog having frequent fits, they will also go through what a fit looks like and how best to respond, which in most cases, is, keep all noise to a minimum and block the light, make sure the dog is safe (cannot harm himself on soeeounding objects) but do not restrain the dog, stay close and talk to him, restraining will further exhaust a dog as they are fighting the restrain aswell as the fit and they are likely to bite as they are not aware of their sorrounding and cannot control body movement, when they come 2 they will stagger and be very confused, some can make them very thirsty and hungry and some dogs may defecate or urinate dueing or after a fit.
As suggested, if they continue, then your vet will discuss meds.

My friend had a retriever who was medicated for this, one thing they did notice though was that if he went swimming in the sea it would bring one on, they found out it was the fluctuation in salt in his body that altered the medicine's effect, they had a caravan by the beach so it happened quite often, they stopped him going in the sea which meant the medication could work again. He is not around now, old age took him

This is strange you should say this as my dog's first fit was at the beach

I think most animals can suffer the odd fit should the body just get itself tangled up...
My horse has suffered 2 fits but had nothing so far - so as with the dogs, they have just said unless it becomes frequent not to investigate any further.
I hope your dog doesn't have anymore!
