At present I use wood chips but my mare reacts to it especially when new bedding is added to the existing bed. I keep her stable and the adjoining stable as dust free as possible by cleaning walls and rafters regularly of lying dust and cobwebs.

Any advice on alternative dust free bedding would be greatly appreciated.

I've just changed from shavings to Megazorb. So far, I've found it brilliant - can be deep littered, or mucked out every day (although I think it's best on deep litter, scraping the surface daily to remove the wet).

Haven't found any dust in it yet, it's definitely more dust-free than shavings, and even paper.

Website here: Megazorb

I tried megazorb and found it dusty, also dust-extracted straw was fairly dusty as well. At the moment I am using rubber matting with either Bedmax on the top (large shavings) or shavings. I did try shredded paper, but it was such a soggy mess that I took the whole lot out and started again.

I use Bliss - it smells hideous when you first put it down - they have fragranced it with eculyptus. But my mare hasn't coughed once all winter and last year she was terrible.

rubber matting + Ecobed cardboard bedding. the pieces don't break down to dust with use, unlike most other bedding types. odour-free, dust-free, really warm and comfy for them to lie down on, mulches down very quickly - great stuff.

also needing to be as dust free as poss, i have rubber mats and a small amount of shavings, under a bucket full, then sweep out the next day. i use less than a bale of shavings a month between 2 ponies.

we have mare mare with really bad COPD this winter she hasnt had any medication and has been bedded on Woodypet with rubber matts and fed Hayledge. Seems to work a treat. have also found Bliss and Easibed good, guess its personal preference. Woodypet is only good if your horses isnt too wet
