I have just got a section A mare 9 years old. In good condition, a little cresty so certainly needs managing.
She is currently on baileys low cal and was on happy hoof over the winter. Her feet aren't the best so might need a little help.

i have sectioned off a tiny patch in the feed so there isn't lush grass.

any help appreciated.

Unless in heavy work, I wouldn't give any hard feed to a sec a, especially one with a crest. If you want to give a supplement, use literally a spoonful of hi fi lite or similar damped with water. Our small pony has a tablespoon of hi fi when the others get fed. Hard to say without seeing the paddock you've made or the type of pasture, but i'd give soaked hay if needs be. I'd generally rather muzzle than keep in, problem with small grass areas is they often end up eating all the fresh shoots. Muzzled in a larger area they use energy moving about & can only get the older longer grass. I'd also exercise the weight off as much as possible. Get the farrier to look at feet, someone else will have better advice than me on supplements for healthy feet, I've been lucky enough to have ones that don't require it.
