Foal is almost 4 months old, she is at grass 24/7 & at the moment she is getting 1 stubbs scoop of stud mix & a scoop of chaff daily moisted with a little sugar beet water. She is still with mum & will be until feb/march.

Mum is getting 2.5 stubbs scoops of stud mix, (this has been reduced from 3.5 since foal has started eating her own feed) chaff & sugar beet. She has just come back in2 light work.

Question is how long do i continue feeding my mare stud ration or when should i switch her back onto the regular feeding programme she was on before she in foal? & when do i change the foal from stud mix to foal mix/pellets....do i wait until foal is weaned? or are they both ok as they are until next year?

I was in the feed merchants today & according to the bags they are all suitable for all stages so it gets very confussing

Seems like a lot of grub, can you weight it and compare with advice from manufacturer,
To be honest I still feed my 15.00, seven year seven year old boy a pet scoop of Mare and Youngstock as I like to see what they are getting, so not so keen on cubes. I also feed 500 gm Speedy beet and 100 gm Micronised Linseed and other mins and vits including biotin and limestone four. This is for forty minutes walking which is about the same work as your mare will be getting, so you also need to be feeding about 1,5kg of stud mix for the foal and her own maintenance. The fact that you have been giving a good feed for four months, will have given the foal the best start in life, and what you feed now is almost of lesser importance
I don't think it matters too much as long as they are doing well, fit but not fat, provided they are getting the basics they will be fine, no need to give them too much as the growth rates will naturally vary anyway
