Hi everyone,

I’m on the lookout for a horse share in and around Hitchin and would love some advice from those with experience in finding one.

So far, I have posted here and in local Facebook groups, and I’ve reached out to a couple of liveries. If anyone has any tips on the best ways to find opportunities or knows of any potential shares, I’d really appreciate your help!

Thank you in advance!

I've always found most of my loaners on preloved so would be worth checking there
Hi there! Thanks for kindly offering your suggestion. I've had a look on preloved over time and will keep doing so in case something comes up. Thanks so much.

Have you got any local tack shops/agricultural shops? Might be worth asking if you can put a wanted notice up in them.
Hello! That's a great suggestion. I just moved to the area from London so I'm not familiar with the local equestrian community as yet, but I will search for local tack shops etc and see whether that offers any leads. Thanks again!

Local equine FB sites are a good place to look, I replied to a "loaner wanted" ad and it turned out even better then we thought as the owner actually had 2 horses she needed exercising, so my daughter and I have been riding them very happily 2 x week for the past 10 months.

Hello! Thanks for sharing your experience. I have put up an ad on several FB pages. Hopefully, I will find a great set up like you and your daughter have. Glad it is working so well!

We have a local Facebook group specifically for loaning & sharing which is great, I was very surprised at the response I got for my elderly horse who's only really a hack, loads of folks were falling over themselves to wander rounds the lanes on her and clear up her poo! Local horsey Facebook groups are probably the best place to start, I like the fact that you can check people out a bit 👍

Do you have a local riding club you could volunteer at to get yourself known to more horse owners? You might meet someone needing a share that way.

Thanks for the suggestion. There are only two near me but I have reached out to them and will see what they think. Appreciate your time!

Another vote for preloved! I’ve found many on there and also putting an advert out saying your wanting/looking for a loan always helps aswell if you haven’t already, also any tack/country shops near you and asking livery yards like you’ve mentioned.
Also is there any riding schools near you? Sometimes they loan out their horses, could ask them in person if they don’t advertise it. You’ll find one eventually, just get the word round, someone will need an extra hand with their horse! 😊

What a lovely reply. Thank you for the encouragement! I'll definitely take on board all your comments. Thanks again!

no worries! I know how it feels when you want to just get out there and enjoy the time with them, it’ll come just keep looking! Once your with one people will start getting to know you and then you can always have options of loaning others as well, the word soon goes around and you’ll be sorted 😊
