Hi, another thread from me asking for some advice!
After purchasing my six year old section A mare last April and attending around five shows, all bar one being county level each time I received the comment 'need to liven her up' or 'not enough spark' I was recommended by a very successful mother and daughter to feed her tiger oats and she'd become the handful I was after - un-suprisingly they didn't make too much difference. I was also adding propel plus in with her feed.
This time round I am trying to fitten up my mare with lunging and leading out in hand, I'm hoping this will help with livening her up. This is where my questions come in...
I lunged her tonight for twenty mins, ten on each rein with a roller and bungee attached between her front legs, she went beautifully so plan on using it again. How many times a week would you recommend lunging her?
Also thinking about getting up earlier before work to lunge in the morning as have little time most evenings, just worried about feeding her. She only gets a small handful of happy hoof plus some baileys Lo cal followed by her haynet, how long after lunging should I leave her, or should I feed before lunging?
Sorry for all the questions, some, especially the how long after feeding, I should already know the answer to, but owning little natives that are more like field ornaments means I'm not all that clued up! First show will be around end of April so hoping to see some improvement by then.
Thanks again!
Ps if anyone has any other ideas on how to liven up a very chilled out mare I'd be very happy to hear of them
