Does anybody else have a gelding that has black sticky stuff around his sheath, it's getting worse and it smells! No other horses on the yard get it just mine it goes all down his legs the only thing that removes it is sheath cleaner!

Do you think he could have an infection ? I've heard rumours it could be cancerous so now I'm paranoid and thinking of getting vet out but don't want to waste his time if he's just got a dirty willy!!!

Any thoughts guys???

the black gunk is simply smegma (a combination of gland fluids and dirt). He will need his sheath cleaning - if you search on here, there is so much advice how to do this.

With Shy, I simply "put up" some sheeth cleaner, leave it while I fart about, and then hose it out and off his legs half an hour later. No problem. :)

Thanks for reply, I do clean it out with sheath cleaner I'm just worried because he's sooo dirty everyday he has it down his legs and stuck to his belly...yuck !

It doesn't seem normal to be that yucky!
