I haven't a clue about girths and saddle fits really (first Horse) Saddler is due out at the weekend. I have my numnah, stirrups and leathers ready and waiting. Just need the girth. It will be used with a GP saddle. Can anyone recomend me a girth? doesn't have to be flashy. I wouldn't even know what size to get :o Shes a 14.2 TBXIDXWB if that helps.

Thanks :)

I really like the Wintec and Thorowgood ones.

I have the second one on this page for my DR saddle:
http://www.thorowgood.com/gp-girth.html#dressage

And I have this one for my GP:
http://www.wintec.net.au/products/mounts/chafelessGirth.html

Love them both. My horse is quite particular about girths but he likes both of these. ETA - he takes a 52in in the Wintec for my GP (56in in summer when he is fat, 52in ATM as he's fairly fit and thinner), he's a 17hh IDxTB so quite a big horse. I bought both from Countrywide I think.

I agree!! Love them! My 16.1hh wears a 130cm girth if that helps narrow it down!

The Professionals Choice neoprene girths are brilliant. Don't pinch and the neoprene velcros off to be put in wash :) they're around £60. If that's a bit pricey try the Thorowgood ones that are elasticated at both ends, they are nice.
Just steer away from the ones that are only elasticated at one end, been told by many saddlers they cause uneven pressure.

.. and a third for the wintec - brilliant girth for horse comfort, and easy on the wallet too!

Does someone on your yard have a saddle you could put on your horses back so you could measure for a girth? Would give you an idea as it is such a hard thing to guess otherwise.

Another vote for neoprene . . . when I bought Kal's new saddle, I bought him a posh leather girth - he hated it so I bought him a nice soft neoprene one and he much prefers that - doesn't seem to pinch as much. That said, he does have very sensitive skin - he marks very easily and is ridiculously ticklish.

I like the professionals choice range.
For my sensitive Tb I have the sheepskin version - it velcros off to wash, and for my rolly poly, I have the neoprene version, as it give a little bit more sticky stability, and helps prevent the saddle slipping. The neoprene liner velcros off for easy washing.

Thank you everyone. I do like the look of the Wintecs, I know my local tack shop has them, although I may be able to pick one up cheaper online (although they are quite a fair price anyway). Yes, I will ask my YO if she minds me trying on one of her saddles and measuring. I cannot wait to ride my Horse again, it has been 3 months!
