Could I bother you all again please. This time I am trying to find out a rough, ballpark figure for installing a menage from scratch. i.e, if I just have a field waiting for it to go into. I would think would probably be 40 x 20 but would be interested to know how much more a 60 x 20 would be. I know the surface can vary and I would be hoping for one of they waxy surfaces. As I say, I am only looking for a basic ballpark figure to see if it is at all feasible. Thanks everyone!

I think it would depend on how much of it you did yourself. So if you put in all the drainage etc (renting a digger) and build it yourself, then you could probably do it for about £3-5K depending on type and how much drainage, and what kind of surface.

If you had one built for you, I would say anything from 8-15k really.

Depends on a lot of factors, the ground, slope, etc.

But you're probably looking at £15k - £20k.

Wax surface will cost a LOT more! We had a quote of £50k for our 60 x 40!!!!

JUST for the surface.

If it helps my 60 x 40 silica sand and rubber arena (FAB FAB surface) cost £55,000 in total

We have a 25 x 50m with a chopped rubber surface on top of sand and it cost about £16,000 5 years ago.

We were quoted £11,000 for a 20x40 and went for the bigger size because 20x40 is too small to jump in really. I would go for the biggest size you can afford.

The size I have means I can set up a 20x40 dressage areana away from the fence and still ride around the outside of it if I need to.
