Hi, I was just wondering if anyone could give me some advice about buying a Myler snaffle. I have been reccommended to try one because my horse does not like a regular jointed snaffle. What sort do I need - my horse is 16, but has not done alot of lateral work so should I get level 1? Also I have heard rumours that I should buy half a size smaller than I would for normal bits - has anyone experience of this?

She's very helpful and you can hire the bit.

I found they come up a bit large.

Hi, Ive just moved to a Myler comfort snaffle. I always try to keep my horses in snaffles. The reason i moved to a Myler is my horse has a large tongue & the lozenge snaffle he had did cause head shaking because the lozenge was restricting his tongue.

Have a think of what you want from the bit ie does your horse lean, pull things like that, do you want to do dressage?? Then have a look at the confirmation of your horses mouth. If your still not sure call a proffesional.

Ive stayed on the same size and fits a treat, I am using a level one on my boy and it is working wonders as he was very unhappy in a tradition snaffle

I use a myler comfort snaffle with eggbut rings on my american quarter horse who has the most enormous tongue for a little horse! The barrel covering the joint and the curved mouthpiece make all the difference. It's also dressage legal, so I can use it for all her competitions, including our breed shows which have to be snaffle or pelham

I was riding her in a pinchless hanging cheek french link which she went well in , but the lack of tongue room meant that she was sticking her tongue out when I asked her to be a bit rounder in canter - having had one quarter horse who always got her tongue over the bit, I made the swap very quickly!

I use a 5inch -the same size as a conventional snaffle, but due to the curved mouthpiece it can look a bit big. Wouldn't go any smaller tho as can pinch.

One of the best things about the myler range is that I can get the same mouthpiece with pelham sides if I wanted to do traditional 'english' showing with two reins

We use a mullen mouth myler, with eggbut sides. No nutcracker action at all - but loss of 'twisting' movement, stopping Star from fixing on the bit, like she used to with a more traditional mullen mouth snaffle.

Great piece of kit.
