has anyone ever come across a horse who is extremely possessive and therefore aggressive over everything?

A friend at the yard i am has a young horse who goes from being lovely to evil in 0.5 seconds and i think it's because he's so possessive over anything he thinks he wants. He's stabled next to my horse and they are in the same field so my friend and I help each other out but i feel like (and must look like) i'm always telling him off when he bullies me and my horse so wondered if there's anything else i could be doing.

He is very young and his owner doesn't take any nonesense from him so it's not like he gets to push her around, but he will often threaten to bite us, barge us when we do his rugs, and bites my horse hard over the stable door if he see's his owner or me when 5 mins before they'll be nuzzling each other! He's also aggressive to horses in the field, he wont share water, grazing space, etc which i kind of get but the most frustrating part is he doesn't warn the other horses he wants them to move before launching an attack!

I've tried telling him off (with his owner's permission) and also ignoring his naughty tantrums but i just thought i'd see if anyone else has any experiences/advice?
