Hey all
Well i have just got a new job and would also like a mortgage as my parents have offered to help with a deposit which is lovely of them.
Anyhow, i was thinking of sharing seren and needed your advice on price,
I was looking to charge a flat rate of £20 a week (unless she was injured by said sharer, then vets bills would need to be paid)
For this they could ride one day in the week and alternate saturdays and sundays. My horse is an excellent confidence and well natured sort who can jump, school, hack, x country etc which said person can do with her.
So what do you reckon to that price guys, real honest answers and opinions much appreciated
I am only considering the share for financial reasons as i can manage very well care wise on my own, but as i said really want a mortgage, and think this would help
thanks in advance

Your idea sounds good, however for £10 a ride, twice a week you may struggle to find someone that is committed to a week in and out arrangement. I fear that if you advertise you may get a range of people that are quite novice and are comparing the price you are charging to riding school time.

How would you feel about having a more formal sharer that could contribute towards the work and looking after the horse, this way they would feel bonded to the horse and committed in all aspects. You may find a person more reliable and willing as they are sharing the horse more fully and have more opportunity to ride.

Good points filly190
I have considered a full on sharer before but i only want something a bit more minimal, i understand what you mean here though, i shall certainly have to think carefully about it all
Thanks again
Anymore for anymore on thoughts in general and the price? thanks?

From what you say about buying a house and keeping a horse you are looking at your finances and £20 a week is a lot of money with the new life style you are working towards.

I understand that you dont want a full on sharer, so what about this idea. Do you have any friends who are interested in riding, where you can teach them informally, this would make your money up. Qualified instructors, dont shoot me down, lots of people do this and I am sure teaching the basics in a safe area would not be harmful.

Another way of making up your money, would be to perhaps offer to help others out on your yard, poo picking service, tack cleaning etc. Or if you live near a race course, you could offer to ride/work/exercise for them on a Sat/Sun and get paid for it. The going rate is £10 per lot (horse) if you are a capable rider.

I am sure there a lots of money making ways you can look at, instead of perhaps going down a route that you dont really want to do.

Or if you are buying your first house and money is tight, we've all been there, you could perhaps get a part time bar job. Yes you are already working, but this way, you are getting a social night out and getting paid for it.

as a sharer, it sounds reasonable to me. I would suggest that you ask the sharer to get rider's insurance to cover any injuries to the horse or rider.

Thanks guys,
filly190, i should have said i already have a second job, was considering upping my hours ever so slightly, i just find it quite tiring with the two jobs, but maybe that would be best. I had been umming and erring (sp?) as to whether to just up hours of second job or to get a sharer, and thought i would do a bit of research.
Thanks again
