I'm hoping to take my PTT and my stage 3 riding at some point hopefully early next year.

Has anyone got any advice? What is the exam like? I've done my 3 riding before and failed on the jumping part but have a feeling if I don't take the exams soon I'll just find them harder to pass in the future . . . .

Can anyone recommend training centres that do block courses. I work full time at the moment (not horse related) so can't do the day release courses that most colleges seem to offer.

The exams are similar to your 1 and 2.... Actually I found the examiners much more friendly in the PTT. (1 even gave me her bottle of water as I'd just thrown up because of nerves!!)

Just be efficient and smile! Goes a long way.

Where abouts in the country are you?

Hiya

I did a week long stage three course at Wellington riding centre in Hampshire. I booked my exam for the beginning of the week after i did the course so everything was still fresh. I did my exam there as well which took a bit of forward planning.
I was a working pupil at the time but there were big gaps in my training as the yard was mostly dressage orientated. But I managed to pass first time!!!!!
This was a few years ago now so im not sure they have the same set up as they did but if you can i would recommend making some enquiries.

Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the tips.

I'm quite nervous about starting the whole process again - my 1 and 2 seem like so long ago!

I live in Liphook, Hampshire and the horses are not far from Godalming.

I did think of Wellington as an option - need to look them up to see what they've got on offer.

For Stage 3 ridden training go to Lavant House Stables near Chichester. That's where I did mine. I had been to other places but no where was as thorough and confidence giving as LHS. Their instructors that will teach you are well qualified and their horses are excellent (not the normal RS horses!). If you can get a lesson with Robert Pickles when he visits. He's the chief examiner of the BHS, so will give you good advise on how to pass!

Might be worth emailing Lavant House to see if they're going to be doing any Stage 3 related training?

Although not entirely sure that it would be as good as a couple of years ago because they've lost their best instructors (and horses to some extent) :(

ETS: Galaxy beat me to it :p

he he! ;)

Yh, the instructors who taught me have left. But a lot of of the horses I rode still seem to be there? DK, Fraser, Webb?

Banners was awesome, poor boy :( Not trying to put you off OP, am sure the new instructors are pretty good, but the old BHS training team up there used to be fantastic.

I did my ptt and stage 3 two years ago after a 12 year gap from doing my 2. I found it really hard tbh as I had forgotten the basic principles of lungeing and tying up in stable etc. I did a part time course for each at my local college (bicton).

I went to college 2 nights a week for a term, studying for my ptt on one night and my 3 on the other.

Must have paid off though as I passed......:)

Good luck next time. The lady who I share my yard with is doing them, she looked into wellington, Hall Place and BCA. Im sure the equine colleges would do them so Merrist wood would be closer to you. Wellington was good with 2 lessons a day but cost ££££'s!!

I'm def concerned about the lunging - was never my strong point!

And the riding too - I don't get much chance to ride anything other than my own.

Will look up the places suggested - thank you.
