hi there i am getting a new horse this weekend a 16.2 trakhner gelding and i would like some advice on the best way to introduce him to the other 15.3 T/B gelding who has lived on his own in this paddock since my freind got him last year.
i did get a horse back in november and introduced them straight away together they had a fight and after half an hour they where ok. but unfortunatley she turned out to be lame.

so when the new boy arrives what is best to do let them get on with it, or fence them off from each other????????

p.s the 15.3 T/B gelding has only really had contact with mares for over a year will he be ok with another gelding????

any advice would be great

Agreed. I wait until I see friendly signs between them, like "talking" over the fence, grazing side by side and generally hanging out together. I'd wait for this in this case as your horse has been on his own for a while.

brill thanks for the advice sorry if this sounds silly but what type of fencing should i put up should i just have posts with electric fencing but not turned on so they can greet each other or turned on, or posts with hardy rope .

Ideally wooden fencing in between if you have it IMO. If not and you have to section off the field to split them intitially, Id use electric tape but Id only have 1 line on the highest part of the posts, not low down as horses will often strike out with a front leg, so you dont want them catching it in it! Id leave it off most of the time if you're around. But if they're out at night together then Id put it on. Just in case they got tangled or whatever during the night, safer to have it on so they keep their distance if nobodys around.

i keep mine apart with wooden posts and electric tape i also do what magic magpie does by not always switching it on then u shouldn have any trouble
