A friend of mine needs to sell her horse due to financial committments asap. She's only got enough money for a fortnight of advertising so needs to make it a good fortnight! Can anyone recomend the best time to sell for the hunting/event market?

Also, failing that, does anyone have any suggestions about the best place to look for people that might want a serious competition prospect for the season?

Any helpful advice really appreciated!
Thanks!

To start with she could list him on all the 'free' advertising sites on the internet be it horsey or general; also listing on the horsey and competition Forums is also effective.
Contact the breeding society or sporting society with which the horse is registered ... they usually have a 'for sale' section and offer very reasonable or even free advertising rates.

what's the horse? is it out and competing/hunting now? If it has current or recent form, it'll be easier to sell. How big and how old? Young horses seem to be a bit sticky on the market too as do those with any problems/quirks...

The other good place - if suitable - is the Pony Club websites.

Oh good advice about the breed/sporting society - thanks ColourFan - definately try that one.

Young horses sticking? Interesting, maybe people look for youngsters more at the start of the summer as projects.

This ones quite experienced. He's an 11 year old KWPN sports horse. 17hh. BSJA act £316, BD 101. Not so much in BE, but very capable in all disciplines. Its a shame as she just doesn't have the money to compete properly, has another horse which is really quirky and as a result is unsellable and she can only afford to keep one.

The one for sale has been out and about this year. He's a good boy! She's so sad. Its such a nightmare selling horses isn't it. Don't know how people do it for a living!
