Just wondering if this is a thing people do , with broodmares etc ??
I was looking to sell my friesian mare , who due to injury is an occasional light hacking horse or a broodmare, she is proven , having had foals previously .
She is 15 yo , and has a good pedigree . temperament etc , She is very reasonably priced , £1000 ono , I am downsizing due to work commitments etc and have lots if bills to pay , so am looking for a good home for her asap , as need to get finances in order .
I had a lady ask if i would sell her with a written agreement that if for any reason she did not take in foal or produce a live foal within 1 year or 2 years , I would buy her back for the same price , so she did not have to keep her in retirement ??
I have not bred from her myself , but she has had 4 or 5 foals all , good , healthy , offspring doing well in all spheres today .
also in breeding :
Just looking for peoples thoughts on this , would this work out or not ??
I am worried that she may take foals and then contact me and say she had not been successful , and want me to buy my mare back although she had had a foal or two from her ??
But then also it maybe a good option as it would be like loaning her out , she could have a foal or two and I would have her paid for , can pay my bills , etc and then could have the option to re purchase her in the future ??
How would I safeguard myself , the lady , and my mare if we were to go ahead ???
Also would it be better to say 1 or 2 years ??
And also whether she could not take in foal or if she did but then foal was stillborn etc , ???
any advice be great ,thanks
