Advice on Small Bale Haylage

As it has been so wet here in Cornwall it looks as though for the first time I am not going to get hay and will have to go for small bale haylage. I am not sure how much I need but believe that you do not feed the same quantities as hay. If I buy 50 bales of hay how much small bale wrapped haylage should I buy? Your advice would be very welcome as I have only used a few bales of horseage in the past. Thanks.

When I used small bales I had 100 to feed a 16.2hh tb x id and two shetlands. One bale used to 2.5 - 3 days

Actually you do feed haylage in the same quantities as hay. make sure you use the high fibre variety. I use small bale haylage for my 16.2 mare and 1 bale lasts approx 2/3 days depending on how much she gets. I would say you will need to order as much haylage as you would hay.

I think if you weigh your hay, you need to give more as there is more water content in haylage than in hay so if you fed 12llbs of hay, 12lbs of haylage would would be less "mass"... .if that makes sense?
