Hi, brought horse in this morning to find she has 2 cuts, one either side of right hind leg, neither of them deep and had already scabbed over but her leg is quite swollen. She is not lame and although there was heat in the leg it wasn't as much as i was expecting. I have cleaned the leg up using hibiscrub and applied wound powder, turned her back out as i thought it was best for her to be moving around? Has anyone got any advice on how to reduce the swelling and do you think i was right to turn her out?

Many Thanks

I think you have done exactly the right things so far. Could just be bruising - give her the weekend and if she is still very swollen on Monday call the vet.

id add a squirt of flyspray to leg, this warm weather is bringing the mankie flying beasts out!

I wouldnt be thinking horse had an infection just cuts and bruising, cold hosing will help to bring the swelling down.

Cold hosing and keep horse moving would be my advice if horse not lame. If it becomes very hot and swollen and the swelling becomes hard, then you might need a course of antibiotics - I have two TBs - this is my most regular form of injury to deal with!

cold hosing and keep her moving. it might help to pop a stable bandage on it. (works for mine) if it doesnt improve in a few days get your vet to post some antibiotics to you.

cold hoseing and let her keep moving around also stable bandage at night if in sounds like you have done the same as me.

i find neo ice bandages for during the day or turnout are amazing they compress, support and cool the legs for hours brillient invention!!!!!
