Hi
Can anyone give me any advice on taking on liveries? I currently rent a large yard and have room for one or possibly two liveries.
I am very confused re the new legislation regarding a qualified person on the yard has this legislation come into force yet?
Also, insurance I plan to take out public liablity for 2 million would this be enough?
I plan on giving out contracts and having Health and Safety inspection but any more pointers please?
Also any tips on any good websites?
Many thanks in advance.

Can't answer first few questions but the livery directory on horseweb-uk.com was where I always looked first for places to go.

Public liability of 2 m may not be enough - a recent case saw someone awarded in excess of 1 m, although it was a riding school as opposed to a livery yard. Try the BHS website their livery yard approval scheme although you might not want to go down that route, the guidelines will be there.

I'd be interested to hear the answer to this. I kept my horse on a tiny yard - it wasn't even a yard, just a family home. they had plenty of acres and let me graze my horse for £10 a week. I'm sure they had no extra insurance or anything andwouldn't be registered as a business because the weren't. It was more a favour. Where do they draw the line? What is the definition?
