Hi
Next year i want to start competing reguarly and to hire a horsebox monthly thd cost is phenomenal!!!

Therefore im thinking it may work out cheaper to buy one on finance and actually pay a monthly cost then its mine after 4 years??.... Etc

Problem is i passed test 9 years ago so im not eligiable to tow a trailer....plys my car is a 2011 Ford First Diesel so not sure it wud pull a single horse trailer?...

Therefore my options are limited to either a) Converted transit B) 3.5 box

I cud just save and buy a cheap 1 but safety a must so would rather buy an upgraded one on finance otherwise i wont feel confident driving it.

Any good trandits too look out gor or a gud company that sells with a warranty and finance or any words of wisdom

Its for my 14h Welsh D and my 14'3 Welsh D

Thanks x

First of all I would look at Alexander's horse boxes as they had a big press release about what to look for with second hand boxes. Secondly- NEVER BUY CHEAP it's a dangerous corner to cut!

I am looking at getting a 05/55plate honda cr-V diesel for ~£8k and a single horse trailer (ifor williams ~£3.5k) and I have to pass my trailer test (£~£1k) expensive business these horses, but I see the £1k as a one off cost, I can off set the trailer against the business, and the car will have a down payment. Also- I would get the best I can afford so no corners will be cut!

You'll definitely need to upgrade your car if you want to tow- fear seeing car and trailer coming backward down hill

Never buy CHEAP but good quality second hand- why not? I had a 56 Chaigley £16k beauty of a box but my boy hated going backwards and newish forward facing 3.5's are mega bucks so got a H reg transit with only 60K on the clock new floor big airy and and drives well for a box of its age. Had it checked out pre purchase then serviced after and it's great, just had the ramp re boarded and rubbered in total it's cost £2450.

Long term I want to do my HGV and get a 4 horse as my daughters are keen to start competing and to have living is a dream!.

The important thing with 3.5t I think is to look carefully at the payload. Are you planning to carry both ponies together? If you get one with a really good payload, that should be possible legally, but probably not 2 full-size horses.

Alexander's do some really beautiful boxes---was noseying in them at Blair---but interesting things turn up when you ask about payload. One had a payload of 600kg, so basically, although it's stalled for 2, you could carry one rather small pony in it when you count the rest of the gear. Others were advertised as "3.8t" or similar, which as far as I understand already means that you can't drive them with a normal license. At that weight, I think you'd be better off just doing the extra license and buying a bigger box!

That being said, I have a 3.5t that I love dearly. It is fine for transporting my 14.1, and would take another small horse as well. But it's very very basic, no frills, just the horse area and a big tack locker.

You can tow with a B licence but there are certain rules that must be followed

I cannot find your car on the specs database

Two 14HH horses weigh ???? 1000 kgs ???
