My 2 year old PRE has suffered from seborroehic dermatitis since very young and, although I know it isn't curable, I just wondered if anyone has had any real success with any specific supplements/topical treatments for keeping it under control. Just this last week it has got really bad again :(

I have tried Sebocalm Shampoo but of course that's only practical during the summer when it's warm enough to give him a bath, and the effect only really lasts a few days.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated :)

I don't know much about it, but I use Linseed to keep my mare's coat in condition. that's supposed to help the skin as well.

Feedmark do a good linseed based supplement that's supposed to help.

You could give that a whirl, see if its any good, or try the bog standard linseed?

Clivers is also supposed to support healthy skin:

In the summer I use Vosene on my dog, he's part westie and can have bad skin. This really seems to help so you might want to try that as it might be a bit cheaper?

Thanks heidiharvsnroo - I might just try the linseed... I already have some so worth a go. I'm also getting some Apple Cider Vinegar for my other horse who has trouble with the flies, so I might try him on that too to see if it helps!!!! Anything natural is worth a go in my opinion :)

My girly has auto immune disease which affects her skin.

I used head and shoulders sensitive shampoo and wash well - with a fine human hair comb through mane and tail to lift scurf. Also comb other areas if a build up of skin.

Flamazine is great for sores and loosing the excess scurf. Prescribed by vet, has silver for healing but otherwise just a basic cream.

I also find global herbs Skratch helps as it soothes her skin and itching, it also repels flies - may or may not help you.

Also feed linseed - this has for the first time in two years, given her coat a shine :D

Good old Hibiscrub works a treat although that obviously gives you the original problem of being only suitable for summer. My oldie had manky greasy, flaky skin earlier this year and I tried all kinds, but the Hibiscrub cleared it after one wash, never to return. If you get a decent day it's still just about warm enough for a bath, you can always do the old straw under a rug thing afterwards.
