I have 3 stables (2 next to each other) and the third is new and is situated at the back of the others but approx 15 metres away. (It wasn't possible to build another next to the other 2). I have a mare (19 yr old retired), her 2 year old youngster gelding, plus a recently purchased pony. I intended to stable the pony in the new stable however, he has never really been stabled alone and reared up as if he was going to jump out. The mare will go in the stable but will try to bolt out if you try to shut her in. Her gelding son will throw himself around the walls if left in there.

The pony is quite quiet and not stressy so I am thinking of stabling him here and putting a full grille up until he stops trying to jump out. They are all turned out together all day and only stabled at night in winter. I need to stable them as the field gets churned up if left out 24/7. So far I have stabled him and the gelding next to each other and the mare is in the small paddock behind with the single stable and field shelter and I always tie a haynet in the stable so she has the option to go in (with a full bed) however, she will not stay in there for long. She is happy if stabled in her old stable (which I guess is understandable as it has been hers for the last 13 years!.

Any advice appreciated.
